THE LIDO

London

The introduction of a new restaurant-café positively impacts this historic building and surrounding park. Conceived to heighten experience, the space responds to the pool and park, resulting in atmospheres that change over the course of the day and year.

  • There are two halves to the space. On the side of the park, the restaurant-café caters users during the course of the day. It is a place for friends to meet, read a book, or simply sit and enjoy the green. At night with the blackness of the park outside the windows, the restaurant transforms into a warm, atmospheric and introverted space.

On the side of the pool, the restaurant caters to the bathers. The character and ambience of the space is activated by the buzz of activity. It is an informal place for everyone, serving cold drinks, light snacks, panini, pizza and ice cream. At night, the poolside becomes the entrance. Here the deep blue light of the pool becomes an ambient focus. This is set in contrast to the darkness of the heath, framing the restaurant/ cafe on each side.
