  • Director

Charles Tashima received his Bachelors in Liberal Arts at Wesleyan University and graduated from Harvard University Graduate School of Design with a Masters in Architecture in 1991. He graduated with honours and the thesis prize and was the recipient of a travelling fellowship for a ‘grand tour’ to study vernacular architecture through Eastern Europe, Turkey and Greece. Following on, Charles taught at the ETH and worked with the practice of Meili Peter Architekten in Zurich.

Charles’ collaborative approach has come from over 15 years teaching architecture internationally. Most of his teaching has been at The Architectural Association, London, where he was a tutor and academic head. He established Charles Tashima Architecture in 1999.

Alongside his practice, Charles is developing a body of work that examines the interplay of architecture and landscape through a series of designs called ‘Topographical Fictions.’ These are imagined spaces that begin as simple pencil sketches and evolve to become three-dimensional, adaptable design propositions for both individual and collective use and experience - from the scale of a step to that of a mountain.
